"The Waking Life" comments
Last semester was the first time I saw this section of the waking life. I am not going to lie and say that I understood and founda profound meaning from this segment. Actually in truth, I didn't even understand what it was about. Why was everything a dream. Last semester, I just let it go it was early and we moved on to something else that caught my attention better. What is funny is that this semester after seeing the clip I understand and think that it is really amazing. That what we humans simply strive to cominucate with eachother and when we find someone who understands what we mean when we say the word "love" is what we are always looking for. Of course I am sure it is more complex than that but it is truely amazing(for lack of a better word) that we are able to convey what we mean to each other. It is good just to realize that we can acomplish alot by simply finding meaning to the things we do and are able to tell eachother about it.
Symbols in Communications
When we first began to talk about symbols you don't realize how important or frequently they are used in everyday life. When I see a sign on a door with a woman I know that it is the womans bathroom. I will know that whether I am in America or another country. It is amazing that symbols or drawings can stand for something and cross a lanuage barrier between people. If I watch the spanish channel I can understand what is going on even though I can not understand more than a few sentences. It is gestures and facial expressions that show how someone is feeling or what they are thinking more than words and sentences. Sometimes a person says something but it is not what they mean. It is a persons job to find out what a person really feels. Maybe that is why relationships are so hard, sometimes people can't seem to find out the others feelings. Or it could be that guys don't realize that girls never mean what they say, atleast that is the stereotype. Maybe this stereotype partialy was right. But whether or not people can figure each other out its made easier by universal symbols. Having a standard way of communication leaves means for understanding.

The Jukebox is a USB device that can hold up to 13,000 radio stations. It is user friendly, only insert he drive into your computer and a program is run that allows you to search through stations in 150 countries. It is compatible with many computers and only $40. This is another way that radio is becoming more accessible.

Influential Movies
I was very sick one day and barely able to move. I had lain on the couch for the entire day watching awful daytime television. I was going crazy between being stuck on the couch and board out of my mind. So I went on a hunt for a movie, one I had not seen before. I found a movie The Jacket starring Keira Knightly and Adrian Brody. The only reason I watched this movie was because I recognized names of the actors, otherwise I had never heard this title before. So I start watching this movie. After the movie was over I sat for awhile trying to figure out how everything had happened. It was a mystery and a thriller. I may have been overly emotional due to my sickness but I found this movie riveting. I loved the plot and the actors amazing job. I watched the movie again immediately after I had finished it the first time. I had never wanted to immediately re-watch a movie before. I felt that if I watched the movie again I would see something else or understand something more. I did. I found subtle hints that I had missed the first time through. I know that I really liked this movie because I couldn’t stop thinking about it for days. I recommend this movie to anyone who is ready to think and not just simply be entertained.

Beat : Radio
A new book on the market “Jewish Wisdom for Business” has been having a hard time finding its place in the media world. It wasn’t able to find a market until Christian radio stations have begun taking interviews with the authors. It goes to show that you only need to find the right audience, and then find the right way to reach them. A book is the perfect thing to advertise on the radio and luckily for this book it was able to find a unique and devoted audience.
Newspaper Websites
I was given an assignment on observing newspapers and what they are doing to keep themselves alive. I did what any college student would do and googled “newspaper websites”. The first website my search came up with was http://www.bivingsreport.com . This website had a list of the top ten best newspaper websites based on aesthetics, design and usability. The website wanted to give viewers the best examples of “good” newspaper websites. The top website was the New York Times. This was the topo site because it was user friendly and eye pleasing. It also had a feature called pay wall. The Washington Post was second on the list because it has a database application that provides information hard to find everywhere else. The third best website was USA Today. This website was so high on the list because of its social networking. So it seems that to have a good newspaper website you need to be innovative and have the latest applications. Each site on the list had a special part or feature to their site. There was no site on the list that simply had the most current news. No site that was on the list because it was the most trustworthy or its information was the most intriguing. A websites ratings are based on whether or not they can bring a new idea or a way to read news to the public.
